You will need a sharp blade to scrape off the algae. Magnetic plastic scrapers can remove thin biofilm, but they're not good for stubborn algae. I wouldn't waste time with them. Make sure you have a spare blade like this one. The blade dulls over time, so you end up spending money to replace the entire wiper. Unless you have a large aquarium, over 40-50 gallons, a standard blade will do and replacement blades are cheaper. Reaching hard-to-reach places is also made easier. It only works on glass. Any other surface will cause scratches. If there are no fish in the aquarium, using a magic eraser to remove algae is much faster, especially after soaking in vinegar. Overall, this is a wonderful glass algae scraper. It comes with an extension cord that you don't need to use unless you want to get your hands wet. It has 10 spare blades, but 100 more are less than $10. The only thing it lacks is an easy way to store it between uses. At the time of writing this review, you could buy it for $12 with a 20% coupon, which is $9.59.
