Updated Review 10/04/19 Ok, tested the replacement amp today. And it put out 37 watts connected to a UV-5R radio. Now this is acceptable compared to the first. You should check these walkie talkies and amos when you get them. This year I had 4 units of different models and they were all bad. Two BF-8HPs, one of those Amos and one of the 50x2 Handys. Original review: What a piece of junk. I connected a UV-5R which puts out just under 4W and an SWR of 1.1 at the output of the amplifier, I only have 25.7W and an SWR of 1.08. excellent SWR, poor performance. Plugged in a 6 watt radio and it only puts out 20.6 watts. Yes, it fell at higher power. Another excellent SWR of 1.06. this is 50% of the declared performance. At 6 watts I expect at least 36 watts of output power.

Pros
  • Easily extend the range of your portable radio; Use the AMP-U25 to create: a mobile radio with a vehicle-mounted antenna, a high-performance field radio with a field-placed antenna, a pole-mounted home/base radio. Your portable radio connects in seconds and is just as easy to unplug and take with you on the go.
Cons
  • Minor issues
