Review on πŸ€– TECBOT S3 Robot Vacuum Cleaner: Laser Navigation, 3000Pa Suction Power, Wi-Fi & Alexa, Ideal for Pet Hair, Floors, and Carpets by Michelle Ortiz

Revainrating 4 out of 5

The best robot vacuum I've tried, but there are app reliability issues.

I've tried three different robot vacuums and two robot mops and I can say with confidence that this is the best. Of course, my sample size isn't that large, but seeing this bot in action is enough to say that I doubt I can find anything better, even at a higher price point. First, the bot really shines in cleaning efficiency and artificial intelligence. When cleaning, he divides my apartment into sections that are very similar to the rooms and actual functional areas such as the kitchen, living room, bathroom, etc. He then systematically cleans each of these sections, starting at the edge and then moving in a circle. to the rest of that particular area without missing a single point. It doesn't bump into walls and will slow down when it sees them coming, then slowly approach them to remove all edges. It also doesn't get stuck anywhere and I have a lot of tricky spots in my house. He sees them all and carefully walks around them, but he still cleans them very carefully. My Shark AV993 bot is approaching this bot's AI level, but it just moves in a strict pattern so it doesn't miss a single point, and it's still bumping into things, trying to climb where it shouldn't, and recognizing no areas. in my house. The suction power is very impressive here. The bot collects everything it goes through, and powerful three-stage brushes make this process even more efficient. You also get a spare brush set (which is actually my main set as the bot comes with the brushes already attached, which causes them to deform permanently). You can switch between three suction modes, with the lowest being very quiet, the middle being perfect and very comfortable, and the highest mode sounding similar to my corded handheld vacuum. Now for the user interface. You can easily operate the vacuum cleaner with the included remote control and it becomes an amazing all-in-one vacuum cleaner with a few additional modes available. But you pay extra for the extra features that come with the phone app, and it's definitely worth it given its power. Let's start with the good when it comes to the app. You get full control of the bot with a live map that is very accurate thanks to laser mapping. The more the vacuum learns about your home, the more accurate the map will be. Even on the first pass, you can tell the vacuum exactly where to go, or outline a specific cleaning area or no-go area, and the accuracy of how the bot responds to those areas amazes me. It's always about the money and it never bothers her. You can set a linear path for the robot to follow or just tell it to go to a remote location and it will generate the path itself and it will always be a very clean path with no collisions with anything. You also get a cleaning report, a very precise status of the vacuum cleaner in terms of location/power/charging, area cleaned and of course you can set as many schedules as you like. A very powerful application indeed. Now for the bad parts of the app. The setup is quite painful. You need to be connected to Wi-Fi for it to work, but that comes with a lot of problems. First, it only sees 2.4GHz networks. Everything would be fine, but for some reason NONE of the Apple routers sees it. It refused to recognize my Airport Extreme or Express and I had to get a separate Wi-Fi repeater for that bot ONLY. However, the app doesn't let you select a Wi-Fi network. This way, you can only proceed with setup if your phone is connected to a network that His Majesty Tecbot accepts as the one it likes. It then gives you several errors during the setup and you have to repeat the whole process several times. I set up the bot at my friend's house first and it worked fine. However, when I brought it home and went through all the pain of routers, the app refused to show the map and was a complete mess, showing the complete opposite of what actually happens with a vacuum cleaner. I tried restarting networks, reinstalling and resetting the app, charging and turning off the vacuum cleaner for days, but nothing helped. I gave up and left it at the valley station for a few days. When I came back it still didn't work, but a simple reinstall of the app suddenly worked! Now the application is again very accurate and shows the map in real time. No matter how many times I run the vacuum software update it offers me, it never seems able to complete it. It either crashes or it just never exits, but it keeps prompting which is pretty annoying. Customer service isn't up to scratch either. They were very quick to respond to my emails but were completely useless when I was trying to troubleshoot all these network and app issues. They just pointed me to a manual or an unrelated YouTube video and eventually just stopped responding. After repeated requests from me, I was told to contact Revain if I had any problems. Not cool. All in all, this is an incredibly smart and efficient robot vacuum cleaner with a very powerful app and lots of useful features. However, it loses a star due to the buggy software and all the pain I went through because of it, as well as the unhelpful customer service. I probably would have deducted more stars if it wasn't for all the good things about this bot and the competitive price. We hope that over time the application will improve and bugs will be eliminated. Regardless, it's still the best robot vacuum I've tried, and Revain is always ready to help you in the event of a marriage. Definitely worth trying.
