I have three lifters to compare. These are the Lodge A5 Camp Traditional Dutch Oven Lid Lifter, the Lodge A5DLL Deluxe Lid Lifter, and the Camp Chef Professional Dutch Oven Lid Lifter (Black, 9"). Here is my unbiased opinion on all three. Lodge A5 Camp Dutch Oven Lid Lifter. Pros: This is a multi-purpose item that surprisingly has the best finish and least sloppily welded joints of all three lifts - a target point since the two deluxe lifts are pretty much dedicated to dutch oven/charcoal cooking - if you're cooking over a campfire I would choose the A5 because it can be used as a poker, a charcoal rake and also as a lid lifter Dutch Oven on the handle for long distances thanks to the T-handle portion welded to the handle The Deluxe Lodge A5DLL elevator is not ideal due to the odd downward tilt of the Grip a little worse Cons: The A5 doesn't have a soft grip like the other two Matching requires more training But no Not as hard as other reviewers would have you believe, unless you really are a coordinated dumbass. Yes, the deluxe lifters are more stable when it comes to operating the lid, but right now the only thing I can do with other lifters that I can't with the traditional A5 is pick up the lid and close it all the way turn . turn around. Unless you're a fancy dutch oven trick artist, there's no need. I can still use the A5 to tip the lid to either side, shake off the ash and do whatever I need to do while cooking and (by the handle) the oven transport. The thing is, I'm trying to show that the A5 isn't as bad as people make it out to be. Lodge A5DLL Deluxe Lid LifterPros: It has the best cook length in the world. That's the only good advantage it has over the others, but if you're planning on cooking with a deep bean hole, then I'd go with the Camp Chef Professional 22" Dutch Oven Riser (which I don't have, but that's how it is looks identical to the 9" I have). Cons: The finish on this model is the worst of the three. It's almost like they baked it in the finish and then tried to weld it together after the fact. unlike Camp Chef , which looks like it's been cooked first, then finished baking (that's how I expect the process to be done), then the A5DLL Deluxe's inner shaft wobbles and twists much more in the outer shell than the Camp Chef, which is very annoying .Camp Chef parallel handle configuration. To me,this is the worst lift.and it cost the most.It looks like I paid more for the Lodge name and not for additional or superior benefits over the C amp boss version. However, I wouldn't really take the time to return it as the advantages the Camp Chef version has over this one are minimal. If I had to do it all over again I would probably buy the 14 inch version of Camp Chef instead of the A5DLL based on what I know now, but then I would forgo the 2 inch length which is better for in ground cooking . Unlike Camp Chef Professional Dutch Oven Lid Lifter (Black, 9") Pros: This is the best option for tabletop Dutch oven cooking due to its length. This saves you from moving the oven in an awkward position across the table as the length is just right. The Camp Chef grip is more secure than the Lodge Deluxe A5DLL version. The parallel bar configuration works best for me. The Camp Chef has better welds and a slightly heavier build than the Lodge Deluxe A5DLL. However, the A5 stem has the best welds (read: more strength) of any three jacks I own. I suppose it slides better up the sleeve) on Camp Chef. Somewhere there may be a problem with rust. probably not, because it looks like the part is galvanized. The time will show. This part really doesn't need to be unfinished as the part of the rod that slides into the tube is finished and doesn't affect the function of the rod at all. Final Thoughts: I generally like the traditional A5 better, but that's just my personal preference given its versatile feature set. It is simply a master of all trades. I can do almost anything luxury jacks can, plus use it as a poker and shovel coal. If cooking over a campfire, use A-5. If your kitchen is limited to tabletop cooking in a Dutch oven, then I would go with the Camp Chef 9-inch riser. If you cook ground or boiled, I would take a good look at the Camp Chef 14" and 22" Lid Lifters before deciding to purchase this A5DLL Deluxe Lodge Lid Lifter.
