Excellent audio and video quality, but watch out for ALL multicast data

Audio and video quality is excellent. This unit did not suffer from the audio format limitation issue that was present with the previous HDMI extender I had previously tested. The fact that this model uses MJPEG 2000 video compression means it has low latency, which is a good thing. However, this low latency comes at the cost of MUCH higher network bandwidth usage. I have 6 (better than) 1080p security cameras on my network that together generate a total of 50Mbps of data for my network. This is the ONLY HDMI extender capable of generating even 70Mbps network traffic. Another problem is that all data transmitted from this device to the network is multicast. When I first enabled this on my network my managed switch was not configured for multicast, multicast data was forwarded to all ports. This brought my entire home network down. VOIP phones stopped working, no internet access, etc. If you have unmanaged switches, YOU CANNOT configure the switch to work with this camera and you should plan for a dedicated Ethernet connection between the video transmitter and receiver. If you have managed switches, you must either make this camera system its own VLAN or configure IGMP snooping/IGMP polling. I was disappointed that the video mode could not be set between MJPEG 2000, H.264 and H.265. I was also disappointed that multicast could not be disabled. Multicast is very useful for point to multipoint video distribution but useless for point to point where I had to use the device. There is a web configuration GUI, but all you can do is change IP and MAC addresses and update the firmware. This is a great device if you can handle the limitations of high bandwidth and multicast.
