Sometime in the 70's someone decided that the beige plastic switch covers would look a lot better than the original dark brown bakelite covers that were most likely in my 1920's bungalow . I knew bronze caps would be a huge improvement, and they are, but there's a big problem. The screws holding the switch plate in place are more than twice the length of the ones I replaced and they don't screw all the way in. I removed the plate, looked in the switch and can't find the lock, but no matter how hard I try, the screws just stay put and won't move. With more effort, I just scratched the screw, and I was afraid I would tear it off, so I stopped. Old houses are weird and it's always difficult to upgrade old fixtures with new products, but I see no reason why the bolts that come with this product should be much longer than standard. Tomorrow I'll go to Ace to see if they can show me some bronze or brass colored screws that are half the length. If only it were easy!
