I noticed that the drive stays lit like it just turned on, no USB reconnection notification, just flashing intermittently. So I tried opening it, it's dead. It's been about a week and I haven't even used it for anything other than reading the driver CD it came with. So I decided the connection inside might be bad and opened the case. The drive itself was produced in 2010, judging by the sticker it's 10 years old. This is Panasonic UJ-240. I have another DVD-RW drive from an old computer (no Blu-ray unfortunately) that I plugged into the case and will see if I get the same issues. If yes, then it is an electronic interface to the drive, otherwise the problem is in the drive itself.
