Overall the rug works great in terms of moisture resistance and sand protection to a certain extent. Wrinkles and creases in the waterproof part of the mat still trap sand, and sometimes the sandproof part allows sand to accumulate on it. The stakes are also fairly small and easy to lose, especially on sand. I had a hard time keeping mine on loose sand as the wind would just blow off the mat, whipping the stake around and flying off the loop. When I first used this blanket I had already lost one of the small metal pins in the sand so I was a bit frustrated that they are so easy to lose and don't anchor well in the sand. I like the weighted pocket design which some other mats use much better. In general, the product is not bad, but leaves a lot to be desired, especially for use on the beach.
