Very uncomfortable product

I don't know why this plug has to be so small, it's hidden by the wall. If you need to connect a short catenary in a wall, just forget it. Stripping 12 AWG wire properly and positioning it in the tight space of the tiny connector is tricky, even on the bench in front of you. I had enough space in the opening to put it together with great effort and I will never use this product for this job again.

Pros
  • Consistent test results
Cons
  • Only available in black

Good quality but difficult to use

Appears to be good quality but difficult to use. It basically takes three hands to hold everything in place during assembly. Properly sized pliers are required to close, which creates problems if you don't have some pliers to try. The first time I closed them I didn't hear a click to confirm they were closed so I started over just in case. If it is not clear that this is a single splice and you need to order two of these cable splice kits.

Pros
  • Pretty impressive
Cons
  • Not as thick as other picks

This is great for a Romex extension without using a junction box

This is great for a Romex extension without using a junction box. It comes with a template to help you cut and place the wires. The cover is transparent so you can see the wires are properly placed in front of the terminal. Everything worked fine the first time I engaged the clutch and applied power. Electrical codes generally don't allow you to hide a junction box behind drywall, so this connector is a satisfactory way to do it (but you may need to check your local codes to be sure). Even if…

Could be much better

It works, allows spices to be brought in without having to open the box in the finished wall. However, the way the cables are fed into the device is very clumsy, requiring three hands to hang from the ladder. The wires are held in place with a plastic clip and you have to clamp them with pliers, which really.... . awkward. The wires are clamped into a metal V, obviously steel, and I don't like the minimal metal-to-metal contact. All in all, there must surely be a way to make this clamp much…

I wish I had known earlier

This is a good product for splicing NM cables for laying in wall or ceiling voids so you don't have to open the junction box. It's a little tricky to properly align the wires to the correct length, so I recommend cutting the wires a little longer and adjusting afterwards. Don't turn around while trying to attach the clear cover - provide screws to attach the kit to the studs rather than nailing. Too bad I didn't find this kit when I added a second floor to my house. I have a lot of 1 and 2 node

Solving the wiring and connector problem

I was remodeling our house and removed all drywall and insulation from the outside wall. In the corner room I added three new window openings and some wiring had to be rerouted. The problem was that they would be too short now. I considered replacing the wire with a longer one, but I started following it to the source and it was a very long way. I can't remember hearing about this for the first time, maybe on one of those TV shows like This Old House where they had the wall panels ready and…
