Review on ASUS PCE AC56 Wireless Express Adapter by Ben Almasri

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Works perfectly in 2G. Trying to get this to work in 5G will be a nightmare.

What can I say about this product. It looks fine and ran on the 5GHz band for exactly 1 minute before malfunctioning again. I was very happy to have bought this card as my old card is 2G and doesn't use the 1000/MB downlink and 1000/MB downlink provided by my ISP. So I ordered it after being very happy with a motherboard I bought from this company years ago for an old gaming rig. The product came in an envelope, the contents were scattered. While everything looked new (and had that new electronic smell), absolutely NOTHING was sealed, every vacuum bag was opened. It was a red flag that I should have returned this product immediately instead of wasting 10 hours looking for time issues. Such a device must be plug and play. And at first, of course, it seemed so. Windows 10 recognized the device immediately and toggling and disabling my other built-in card was as easy as a few clicks. I'm running an internet speed test and it shows the speed I've had in the past. 28 Mb/down and 30/up with a ping of 5. Okay, no big deal, just broadcasting in 2G. So Microsoft drivers will not suffice and I need to download enterprise drivers and that is quick. The next test drives me crazy. ping 0! Download speed 785! Load 1000! I was hooked and then my computer froze like never before. Forced reboot. This will be the first of a dozen that each take 5 minutes to solve or not solve at all. I tried every trick in the book to get this map to work, but it never worked properly again. Forum after forum, dumping drivers, I even did a clean install of windows. From now on the card connects to my network for 25 seconds at a time and then disconnects in an endless loop with a random reboot thrown in to be safe. So if you like wasting your days and have lightning speeds for half a minute, this map is for you! I was warned about the quality drop by ASUS, but I was hoping it was just bad luck on the part of my PC enthusiasts. I don't think I will buy from this company in the future. Shame really, they used to be the gold standard for quality. I have over two decades of computer experience and I believe I have done absolutely everything to make this product work as intended. Very disappointing.
