Very uneven heating with induction

Frypan 14" diameter on rim and 12" diameter at bottom. Unfortunately, the induction portion of the base is only 8 inches in diameter, so the pan heats up quickly in the middle of the 8 inches and barely heats up in the rest of the pan. For example, when filled with water, it will boil very quickly in the 8-inch center, but won't come to a boil outside of that central area. I have a 12" diameter induction heating element so it should heat the entire base evenly if the entire base could be inductive. This will probably work well with a large gas burner as the burning gas needs to spread across the entire bottom of the pot. It can also work on induction to some extent for slow cooking on low to medium heat with very frequent stirring to counteract uneven induction heating.I will be returning it.
