I read all the reviews and was concerned how many people said they couldn't program the remote. I first bought one that had the correct replacement number but no dip switches and refunded Revain. I have a Genie with DIP switches and wasn't sure if it was code 9 or code 12. I pulled out an old remote that was very inconsistent (Genie Home Depot programmable) and looked at the location of the DIP switches. There were 3 positions, with + and - and one in the middle. This one only allows + and -, but that seems to be all I needed. I set the switches after pressing the program button. The last 4 were all + so I assumed I had code 12. I pressed the I button 12 times (there are two buttons you can program, I and II, it's not the programming button where the dip switches are). The garage door opened on the 12th click. Then I waited and pressed the I key and nothing happened. I waited and pressed the program button and then the I button 12 times and the garage door went down on the 12th click. I waited again and tried to get the remote to work by pressing the I button once. Again nothing happened. I was frustrated and thought I had a bad remote that would only work if I programmed it and pressed the I button 12 times to open the door. Then it hit me. You need to press the program button after pressing the I button (for Genie) 12 times. It then exits setup mode. After that everything worked great and I only had to press the I button once and the remote worked great. Good distance too. During the panic I found there was nothing to google to find out which button the instructions were talking about. Good price and works great.
