This little stand is great. This is very useful for focusing on what you are seeing. It's much more stable than holding a microscope camera or the lame little mount that comes with the kit. I think that's the point! Round dials on the side make it easy to focus. A button on the back allows you to tighten or loosen the microscope holder. The camera mount uses small tension knobs to hold it in place, which works well when there is enough room to access the camera's "zoom" feature. It's definitely worth the price. i really like it I loved it and my kids loved it too :) We started using black construction paper to move the little things we look at. It works amazingly well. Also remember that this is a $20 accessory. Expectations need to be controlled. The tolerances are not big. it is not a precision block. Complaints: 1. The color of the base is silver. I'll paint it black (if I'm interested. I'm not sure yet). This overexposes the image when the subject being viewed does not sufficiently fill the frame. Our solution was to use black construction paper, which also proved very handy for moving the subject around. I know it probably wouldn't look as cool, but it would work better if it was anodized black instead of silver. 2. Why did they make the arm that goes from the base plate to the post so thin? It flexes when you use the little handles on the side.
