One of the gas springs on my Bilco brand steel basement/bulkhead door (size C) has failed. This made the door difficult to lift and fell dangerously when closed. Bilco charged $72 for a pair of their springs (part #3RPBD357C) that were shipped to the house. I thought it was a lot of bucks for a part that only lasted 7 years from the start. There wasn't much information on the factory gas spring, but after some research I settled on a length very close to 20 inches and I needed a 450 N / 100 # rating. The bottom line is that they fit perfectly and can be installed in seconds, requiring only a small screwdriver to open the clamps. The quality looks at least as good as the original springs. My Bilco basement doors open and close smoothly and easily, like the icing on the cake: I got this set with a 75% discount on a factory part and two days delivery!
