Review on Justrite Galvanized AccuFlow: The Ultimate Flexible Hazardous Solution by Adam Nelson

The only way to store gas safely (IMHO)

Like many people who store gas, I have used these cheap plastic containers for years and have never felt safe in them. You may have heard stories that because they don't have spark arrestors in their spouts, they can break under pressure or even explode. And plastic IS porous, so it can evaporate into the atmosphere over time. Read forum comments on later CARB-approved doses. They leak gas when trying to use them and are difficult to use without spilling - it doesn't help the environment nor make it safer to use. With plastic jugs, I just didn't feel comfortable keeping these things in my attached garage because I knew they would really start any fire once the plastic container melted. A motorcycle (with a full tank of gas) burned down in a garage fire. When I examined the charred remains of the frame and engine, to my surprise, the steel gas tank was STILL full of gas! Some of the aluminum parts on the bike had melted and were lying in hardened puddles under the bike. But the tank remained intact. It was a hot fire. But there is NO explosion or further stoking the fire. Why? I've been told that a properly sealed gas cylinder contains very little oxygen, the other ingredient needed to ignite (or explode). I did my research by looking at the products of various metal gas can manufacturers and reading user reviews. In my opinion, Justrite's safety benches seem to have an edge over the competition with their safety features. There are built in fill and pour out flame arrestors and an AccuFlow feature that allows you to CONTROL the flow to any gas tank with a manual valve. It appears to have all the necessary components for a safe gas bottle, as well as being a strong and reliable container. They are designed to seal and prevent vapor loss and be safely released in a fire rather than bursting under the pressure of expanding vapors and fuels. Yes, the cost of this model is three times the price of a plastic bottle, but at what price? Are you going for security? When calculating the cost of restoring a home or unfortunately a life, the decision was easy for me. They are designed to last for many years and the company offers replacement parts if needed. In practice, a metal can adds extra weight when lifted. Small people, pay attention when choosing larger glasses. But on the bright side, it delivers gas to my lawnmower and generator with no spills (although you can see a few drips coming out of the spout). Now when I drive into the garage I no longer smell exhaust fumes with these sealed cans. The build quality, materials and finish appear to be superb. I can recommend the product unreservedly.

Pros
  • Good product for the price
Cons
