The resulting drive played the first CD I put in with no problems. After ejecting the CD and reinstalling, it would not play. It also makes a lot of "seek noise" when inserting a disc and trying to read it. Sometimes it can read parts of the disk. All the discs I've tried playing on it play on an external CD/DVD drive on the same computer with no problems. I'm sending it back.
