I researched several mats before purchasing this mat and it turned out to be a good choice. But remember that different rugs serve different purposes; For example, some are designed to provide extra cushioning while others do not. I would recommend this underlay if: - You plan to use it under a carpet on a hardwood floor. so it's less likely to slip. You don't need extra padding under the mat. It's not a very spongy carpet underlay and isn't designed to absorb a lot of impact. (The third photo should give you an idea of the thickness of the rug) I would NOT recommend this rug if: - you plan to use it under a rug that sits on top of a rug as this rug is NOT effective at preventing the rug from slipping on the carpet. Carpet - You'll want to add extra padding under the carpet (it's quite a thin pad). What I like best about this pad is that it sticks "just enough" to the hardwood floor to keep the carpet from slipping. If it were less sticky it wouldn't prevent slipping, and if it were stickier it would be difficult to pull off the floor (as you can see in the second photo, this pad does NOT leave a mark on the floor when you need it to move it). One final tip: this works best on hardwood floors; On other surfaces like tiles it has much less grip and stability. Hope that helps!
