Certain fish species benefit from heat treatment above 30°C if they become infected with certain parasites. Traditional aquarium heaters with built-in thermostats are utterly useless if you need to do this. These standard heaters are also not very efficient at maintaining a very stable temperature and are particularly poor at bringing new water up to temperature quickly since the thermostat is not isolated from the heater tube. As a discus breeder/enthusiast I believe these devices are worth every penny! I have found that new fish brought to me very often become emaciated from Heximite due to increased stress. 4 days at 94° and they eat like pigs again and swim actively. Discus also have higher temperature requirements than regular tropical pet store fish (82-88°C) and are very picky about fluctuations due to cheap on/off heating cycles. There is no need to spend a lot of money on a dedicated aquarium temperature controller. I use "Inkbird Itc-308" for my hospital aquarium with a heating tube and "bayite BTC211 1650W" for my two 800w tubes in my large system (one tank to heat 3 glass aquariums).
