Review on πŸ”§ Dorman 917-268 VVT Solenoid Gasket for Honda Models – Engine Variable Valve Timing by Christian Young

My problem is solved, no more leaks

I have a 2006 Pilot 2WD that spilled a ton of oil. The mechanic told me that the VTEC solenoid valve seal was leaking. I ended up replacing it myself because I would have to wait a week for it. It took me about 30 minutes to remove the valve, then cleaned it and replaced the gasket. Be sure to replace BOTH seals. Obviously, these seals are known to fail. If you have a VTEC engine, it might make sense to automatically swap it out once you hit 100,000. Mine was changed at about 200k, although I've had a very slow leak for probably the last 50k, the mechanics overlooked it. At 150k they replaced the valve cover gasket which I was told had a very slow leak but I think even then the VVT solenoid valve gasket was the problem. It only got worse, so bad it was obvious. If you have a Honda Pilot (2003-2008) the 1 ) rocker cover gasket. You will eventually lose oil, but the good news is that gaskets are pretty cheap and not that difficult to replace. Doing this will save you the hassle of oil leaks. They are all made of rubber and will be destroyed over time by the heat from the engine.

Pros
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • There are defects
