Don't blame Moen for not servicing your valve.

OK folks. Don't be mad at the title of my review. Buying this pen because the previous one broke gives you a chance to learn something the hard way. Like me! I have a Moen Posi-Temp valve in my guest room shower. The handle broke and I was mad at Moen for clearly not making their plastic handle strong enough. Right? Oh well. You know you said the same thing. Just confess. Then I thought. And the fire alarm went off in my office. That valve was pretty hard to turn. It was like that for a while. I wonder why? So I did a little research and read up on Moen Posi-Temp valves and found that the valve cartridge hadn't been lubricated or replaced in at least 15 years. Oh, I wonder, maybe that's why the valve is so hard to turn? I wonder if that's why the handle broke? So I gave up and bought a new cartridge with a valve to match the new pen. Yes, they are a little expensive if you buy a Moen brand cartridge. But there's a reason valves last so long. And replacing or lubricating the cartridge is actually not that difficult. Unless the cartridge is that old or encrusted with mineral deposits. Then you may need a special tool or a plumber. But once you lubricate or replace the cartridge, this Moen valve turns SO easily, you'll understand why Moen pens are designed the way they are, and will likely never break another grip again. . And you will wonder why you waited so long. i know what i did! So do yourself a huge favor and lubricate/replace the cartridge while you replace your broken pen.
