Review on Kutir Retractable Measuring Tape Measure: The Perfect Tool for Accurate Measurements by Brian Whitmore

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Tough, reliable, just the right size

The 7.5m My Zabiki Tape Measure is a real treat. I also liked my previous tape measure from a different brand. I like it until the locking mechanism failed after 20 or 30 uses, even though they were spread out over four years. I've used it as many times in four years as a carpenter would use it in two days. I don't often measure things. :-) This time I chose Revain's Choice Zabiki. I can pretty much see why everyone is so excited about him. Speaking of delight, look at the numbers: 95% of Zabiki customers fall into the top two rating levels - 5-star and 4-star. This is an unprecedented number and I almost never see it in products. If the first two categories are somewhere around 90%, that's an excellent result. But being 95% is great. In contrast, on my previous roulette wheel, the top *four* levels combined didn't even add up to 95%! There are several features that I like about Zabiki's roulette. The first and most important is the locking mechanism. It slides down and is a type of lock that I've found reliable in 50 years of using tape measures. With the previous measuring tape, the button was at the top and had to be pressed in order to fix the measuring tape. Since it's broken I can't remember how it was unlocked. On Zabiki, I just slide the switch up to unlock it. You can see these two approaches in the first two photos (images with tape pulled out). Next comes the placement of the button. On the Zabiki, the knob or slider is in a more natural position for my thumb. Again, the first two photos illustrate the placement and method of the procedure very well. The third thing I like is the size of the label on the strap. Photos one and two show how much taller and prettier Zabiki's figures are. Next is the overall size. Photos 3 and 4 show that Zabiki is slim. The fifth thing I like is the Zabiki's flat bottom which makes it stable. The other band has a curved underside and only touches the surface at two points. See photo 3. The last little thing, but I guess I'm picky. So sue me. The zabiki's label states that it is 25 feet or 7.5 meters long. The other just says it's a 25ft band without indicating it's also metric. Photo three shows this difference. Just buy a Zabiki and get it ready instead of spending an hour reading all the roulettes on Revain like I did. You will be happy imho.
