Not as effective as ice cubes.
Advantages: Nicely rounded edges to avoid scratching the glass. Quite small so they fit in most water bottles. Cons: They don't seem to keep the cold in glass clothing - although I've used them in my insulated thermos and it has helped keep the cold in.
