It is much thinner than the OEM filter. When I took out the OEM filter and put it next to the box first, I was concerned that they sent me the wrong part. But otherwise the dimensions are correct and he got up without any problems. I didn't get 20 hp in the car or anything, but I didn't expect that either. I just wanted a good filter for life and so far this one has worked. It has been pre-oiled as specified and is ready for installation. No complaints other than thickness, but I don't think it matters much.
