Review on ๐Ÿ–ฅ๏ธ TESmart HDMI Dual Monitor KVM Switch 4 HDMI PCs + 2 HDMI Monitors - 4K@60Hz, Cascade Quad Monitor, HDR 10, HDCP 2.2 (Black) by Michael Keitt

Revainrating 4 out of 5

A bit tricky to set up and use, but it works for me.

I am using a TESmart dual monitor KVM switch with two Acer 2K monitors (2560 x 1440) connected to three PCs. Two Dell laptops for work and my personal home desktop. While laptops require adapters to work with DP ports, they work quite well when switching between PCs. Only occasionally do I have to manually select a source on one of the monitors to complete the switchover. A little annoying but still allows you to use one set of keyboard, mouse and monitors for multiple PCs. The desktop is more difficult and it seems to be the graphics card. This is an MSI NVIDIA RTX 2060. This card has its own DP connectors, so no adapters are required. However, the card does not support switching with KVM very well. When switching to another PC after a period of time, the card seems to disable the ports on the graphics card that was connected to the monitor and when switching back the port does not activate. I did a little research and found a solution. This required the purchase of headless monitor emulator plugs. Since the graphics card has four ports (3-DP and 1-HDMI), I bought and connected two emulator plugs and then configured the card to display between ports 1 and 3 and ports 2 and 4. This keeps the ports active when I move to other PCs. When switching back, I still sometimes have to turn one of my monitors off and on again for the card to sync to the monitor. It's not a perfect solution, but it's better than using multiple sets of monitors, keyboards, and mice to use all my computers. Makes working from home much easier.

Pros
  • Highest support and durability ratings from testers
Cons
  • Annoying
