Review on Enhanced Milling Machine Lockdown Vise Swiveling: Enhancing Precision & Versatility by Jose Guzman

Revainrating 5 out of 5

An absolute theft. I can't believe how good this is for the price.

I am very happy with this vise for the price. A HUGE upgrade from the strong but imprecise vise that came with the grinder. With my Starrett Last Word dial gauge, I get almost half a thousand hits right in the middle of a stationary sponge when pushed in. Both ends show 0 and the middle is only slightly concave. For everything I expect it's extremely good. I haven't had a way to square them exactly yet, but I can't find any errors with every precision square and 1-2-3 block I own. :one. *Very* slightly higher cheekpieces. Holding a stop block or machine clamp is hardly enough for repeated positioning of multiple parts or multiple operations. An extra 1/8 inch or so would have made it more useful. It can be used as is, but it takes a little more time and care to set it up properly. 2. There is a graduated scale on the base. , but there is no index marking on the vise body itself and no hard lines in the casting to give a nearly accurate reading), but for some operations half a degree accuracy is quite adequate. For example, I recently made an adapter for a "poor man’s” cordless drill for my mill. Imagine a ring divided into six parts, each with a different part, either on a milling machine or on a flywheel. If you're reading this router vise review, you've probably seen this device before, but the word for it escapes me right now. In each case, it only had to be rotated 60 degrees between operations. Even a full degree doesn't have much of an impact on final performance. After doing the actual adjustment with a manual file. But I didn't have the ability to easily make these changes and instead had to use a cold chisel to mark them myself. And it's gotten a bit weird, which is good, but it annoys me. That's all. Other than these 2 minor issues and after a month of occasional use, I have no complaints. This is a large vise for a round column mill (five inches would do, but they were significantly more expensive and for some larger parts I can either slide the jaws out or just clamp right onto the table) and amateur work. Just buy it now!
