I recommend this server for 4K video editing for two Macbook Pros. I get around 700-1000Mbps with a black magic speed test with 8 drives installed at 7200rpm before even attempting to install NVMe drives, which supposedly really speeds up transfer speeds. I've noticed that a 10Gbe connection is MUCH faster than a Thunderbolt connection. which is kinda weird. I don't think I set it up correctly as the Thunderbolt 3 connection should be faster. Buyers should consider the 10Gbe connectivity option, which replaces Thunderbolt 3 connections with dual 10Gbe connections. I like 10Gbe better because I can use my computer up to 50 feet away from the server, while the maximum distance with Thunderbolt 3 is 3 meters, which is not very far when two people can edit so close together. So I would recommend going for the same server with the 10Gbe option instead of FireWire. The Thunderbolt 10Gbe adapter costs $150 more per connection, but since a Thunderbolt cable certified for use on this computer costs about $80, that's not much more per connection, and you get a lot higher speeds. I've averaged over 1000Mbps versus around 700Mbps on Thunderbolt 3. HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS DEVICE FOR SMALL VIDEO WORKGROUPS THAT NEED TO WORK ON ONE PROJECT AT A TIME. THIS IS THE LOWEST COST OF INVESTMENT, THIS IS THE FASTEST OPTION. For just two machines, it's even faster than a "video" server with 4 SSD slots added, which costs 1,000 more! GREAT OFFER. THE ONLY SOLUTION FOR SMALL VIDEO EDITING WORKGROUPS!
