but it works fine on Windows

It works, plug and play. I don't know how Blu-ray works on Linux as I don't want to install a bunch of packages just to try it, but it works fine on Windows and DVD reading works on both Linux and Windows. . Appears as /dev/sr1 as expected. I don't know what people are saying about PowerDVD and such, I didn't get any software disc at all and had to test Windows Blu-ray playback with free software. Consider Googling "free Windows Blu-ray playback software [version]" before rating all the hardware as junk. I mean everyone knows that PowerDVD has been around since the 5th century BC. Chr. Malware is. A bit picky about reading DVDs: I have a lot of data DVDs, many of them are a bit scratched. This thing restored most of them (about a dozen) but two had to be inserted into the internal DVD-R reader. One of the discs this thing couldn't read was so worn out it looked like it had a persistent error, just to give you an idea of how bad the disc must be. Great value for money given the functionality of Blu-Ray and full compatibility with pristine DVDs.

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • May damage
