Type of review

Only arrived today. I plugged in my Win10 laptop (with only one port) and it recognized the drive straight away. I put in a DVD (Apollo 13) and it played great. The process took a maximum of 2 minutes. Good. Okay, since it's a well-known fact that Windows doesn't play Blu-ray discs natively, I already knew that a Blu-ray disc won't play if I haven't set up the bundled software. To save time, I followed the instructions in this product review published by gargamel314 on March 21, 2016. The…

Pros
  • A dream comes true
Cons
  • Basically good, but...

I've decided to prefer this Archgon external drive to the equally attractive Pioneer unit, particularly for its metal construction and matte black finish. I'm very pleased with the looks and fine workmanship and just as importantly, it works flawlessly. I use it to rip CDs, watch Blu-rays and other videos, and download software from CD to my booted Windows 7 Intel NUC. I haven't updated any of the programs that come with it, but I will if I have to because the version I have works very well for

It really works and does what it says on the tin for about 6 months

Now I have 3 of these. ALL THREE of my players died after about 6 months of use, each one of them. I haven't used it consistently even each of those months, so I'm starting to suspect it's not built to last. I can't recommend this product to anyone, but if you just need a short-term Mac/Windows drive solution, this really works. Note: Product support appears to last approximately 6 months (according to receipt) and each drive failed right after 6 months. This time I had problems at the 6 month…

but it works fine on Windows

It works, plug and play. I don't know how Blu-ray works on Linux as I don't want to install a bunch of packages just to try it, but it works fine on Windows and DVD reading works on both Linux and Windows. . Appears as /dev/sr1 as expected. I don't know what people are saying about PowerDVD and such, I didn't get any software disc at all and had to test Windows Blu-ray playback with free software. Consider Googling "free Windows Blu-ray playback software [version]" before rating all the…

Great hardware - terrible software

I bought this to play Blu-ray on my computer. I would give it five stars but it didn't come with the software to run it. It came with a CYBERLINK MEDIA demo CD. Out of the box everything worked fine. I played the Blu-ray movie to make sure everything works. I breathed a sigh of relief when everything was up and running in just fifteen minutes. I switched off and was happy. When I tried to finish watching the Blu-ray, it said it couldn't read the Blu-ray. At some point I realized that the demo…
