Review on 🚘 Ford 8L3Z-6M280-B Transmission Solenoid by Virgilio Feliciano

Revainrating 5 out of 5

The only VCT Solenoid you should buy

This genuine Ford Motorcraft Variable Valve Timing Solenoid is MUCH better than the inferior aftermarket versions. My engine had 2 aftermarket VCT solenoids installed just before I bought my 5.4L 3V F150. engine and were problematic from the start. On mild days, they provide intermittent and non-linear power delivery when accelerating with a noticeable lack of power. They will perform worst on the hottest days in the mid 80s or higher and will cause the car to backfire, lose all power and render the gas pedal unusable beyond the slightest pressure on the pedal. I don't know why cheap aftermarket parts can be so sensitive to heat but after installing Motorcraft the problem was solved. The driver's side was a little more difficult to install as the power steering pump reservoir and airbox were handy and had to be unbolted and pushed to one side. However, the passenger side is fully accessible. The round black caps need to be carefully pryed up with a large flat head screwdriver and then a long thin Torx T27 screwdriver or T-handle wrench can be used to remove the solenoid from the head. They come pre-lubricated so no greasing is required. Ford VCT solenoids aren't all that expensive compared to useless aftermarket solenoids, so don't waste your time and money on other cheap reproduction junk.
