Review on Knife Sharpening Stone Set - Complete Abrasive & Finishing Products by Michael Hogate

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great quality and great price.

I'm not an experienced user but I wanted a quality sharpening stone insert for knives, chisels and wood planes. I originally bought this sharpening set because it looked very good value for money at 23% off current prices at the time. Now I can say that it offers great value. The set is carefully packaged in a sturdy glossy box (and everything can be easily repackaged for safekeeping). The stones measure 3" x 7" and 1 ¼" thick; and should last a long time (I would prefer 8" long stones). The first thing I did when I opened the box was pull out a couple of chisels, which seemed sharp to me, but after only 6-7 hits on a thin rock, they cut paper with ease. The quality of the stones is surprisingly good, they are equally dense and correspond to the declared grain size; They sharpen steel quickly and ensure effective sharpening. The additional components are also of surprisingly good quality. The smoothing stone is a great bonus item, I've wanted one for a long time to level up my old stones, when bought individually they cost about half of this whole set. I'm not naïve enough to say that these bricks are as good as many expensive bricks, but for the average user using the DYI technique, this is a good quality starter kit at an affordable price. This is a 5 star set, I highly recommend it.
