They are good stones in power and hand tools

At first I didn't sharpen knives very well, even with a guide, but after a few hours of practice I get the knives so sharp I almost cut off my fingertip , almost without feeling it. Do I need such sharp kitchen knives? Not quite, but I think it's cool. Other knives, like the ones I take to work and fishing, will cut through just about anything, be it tape, wire, cloth, or cardboard. Take the time and practice, mind the stones, and you'll make knives that are actually some of the sharpest you've

All the grit you need at a good price

I recently bought this set and was pleased to see that it has 4 different grit sizes plus a leather polishing belt. Instructions were a little sketchy but there are many videos on YouTube showing how to use stones to sharpen knives. Foundation for even more stability* The stones are available in all grits needed to repair a truly damaged blade or to fine-tune your existing blades. correct grade * It also comes with tools for cleaning and leveling your stones

Works with power tools and hand tools

Started sharpening a set of knives and went from recommended coarse to fine #8000. However, once I was satisfied and able to do the "Pomato test" or "paper test" I found that I never went back too coarse, just using #8000 to maintain sharpness. I think I could get away with just #3000 and #8000. I tried to feel different grit levels with my fingertip but I couldn't, they all feel the same to me. Obviously I can feel the difference with sandpaper. However, I don't know if this is possible or…

Poor QA/QC and Unsolicited Emails

The 3000/8000 grit stone (pictured) arrived defective and badly bent. Update: After the seller forced me to delete my review, I am providing an update on my order instead. After receiving the defective stone I requested a replacement which Revain promptly dispatched. The new 400/1000 grit stone was slightly warped but otherwise fine. It's not very obvious, and yet the stone works well. My knives are sharper than before, so I'll give you this. I would have given 3 stars as Revain was able to…

You get a lot of things but you get what you paid for!

You get a lot for little money. Unfortunately you get what you paid for. Smoothing stones, slings, even a bamboo base are all good and useful. Maybe even an angle indicator (I'm not a fan of that). The main problem with the stones is that I feel that the grain size distribution is quite broad and as a result the scratch pattern the stones leave is similar to the scratch pattern of coarse grains. The 3000/8000 stone grit is also much too high. Based on the feel and the scratch pattern it leaves…

  • Dubious purchase for seniors

That's what it should be

I was looking for a sharpening stone for kitchen knives. What I was looking for was something affordable that I could use every 3-6 months on my three most used knives. As someone who loves to cook and prepare, I spend about 5-6 hours a week on my knives so they wear out quite a bit. However, I don't sharpen knives or work in the kitchen, so I don't need a professional stone set to cut sashimi or anything like that. If it helps, the main knives I sharpen with this set (already used several…

Pros
  • Great for a small home

  • Requires an outlet

I have always used whetstones to keep my knives and scissors sharp. I decided I needed a new sharpening stone and chose this product. This is an amazing set of whetstones and related items. First of all I have to say that you need to know how to sharpen your tools. I would advise You Tube to look it up and learn how to do it properly. This product was very well packaged and available in multiple grades from coarse to fine. The first thing I did was find the knives and my trusty ax and set to…

Great quality and great price.

I'm not an experienced user but I wanted a quality sharpening stone insert for knives, chisels and wood planes. I originally bought this sharpening set because it looked very good value for money at 23% off current prices at the time. Now I can say that it offers great value. The set is carefully packaged in a sturdy glossy box (and everything can be easily repackaged for safekeeping). The stones measure 3" x 7" and 1 ¼" thick; and should last a long time (I would prefer 8" long stones). The…

good starter kitchen knife sharpening kit

I recommend Bob Kramer's YouTube video on sharpening knives to get you started. When I hunted I had access to whetstones and I had knives. Foldable hunter Buck and Skinner. But since then I've only used steel for my hodgepodge of cheap kitchen knives. Various German and French manufacturers. Very useful. I figured I cooked just enough to earn a decent set of handcrafted knives. I bought some Chinese New Wave Japanese style VG-10 knives, so I wanted to take proper care of them. I chose this set…
