Review on πŸ’» Renewed TP-Link AV1000 Powerline Ethernet Adapter Kit, Gigabit Powerline Speeds up to 1000Mbps (TL-PA7010 KIT) by Patrick Burns

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Very quick to set up, so far very stable. If you are slow, try other outlets!

, I used a second router configured as a wireless bridge to bring the network upstairs to where my desktop is. Latency was okay, but connection was erratic - on a good day, the connection would drop for a few seconds every few minutes. I bought a powerline adapter hoping to at least make my connection stable knowing I have an old house with old cables. and so far it has made a huge difference. I connected both and they connected within seconds. At first I was disappointed as pinging my router sometimes took over 300ms, averaging 16ms (image). Overall it was more stable than Wi-Fi but much slower than I expected with more bursts. I decided to move it to another unpopulated outlet just for testing, and with constant ping, my highest response time was 17ms, averaging 5ms (image). Definitely not Ethernet quality, but I'm very happy with the results. I connected both adapters to ungrounded 2-pin sockets on separate circuits. However, my overall download/upload speed is slightly slower than Wi-Fi. My phone gets 31Mbps down/2.2Mbps up while my powerline desktop gets 20Mbps down/1.9Mbps up. Both receive a ping time of 22 ms from the nearest server. These results are fairly consistent across 3 tests each. I understand it has to do with the wiring in my house so it's not a blow to the product but it's something to look out for. Refurbished units look and function like new. It's still day one so I'll update if I run into any issues in the future, but for now I'd recommend them.
