FINALLY HEALTHY PREPARATION OF COFFEE - PREPARATION TIPS

After learning that French Press coffee (and any coffee that doesn't go through a paper filter) can lead to high cholesterol and LDL levels, I was I'm looking for a better way to brew. THAT IS THE SOLUTION! No machines with their plastic hoses and weak/warm pourovers coffee. These ribs allow me to brew coffee that tastes better than a French press AND allows me to use a paper filter to help lower my cholesterol. Check out the tips below to see what I've learned from them (makes a HUGE difference). First a short feedback from the seller: Fitzy Shop did everything. The product comes fully loaded with Revain and they felt that shipping in the yellow envelope was sufficient, but it wasn't. Apparently one of them was dented because 3 fins were squeezed into an envelope that barely fit. I contacted the seller and he immediately sent me a replacement and was very sincere in his reply to ensure I am happy with the buyer. 5 star seller for sure! BRIDAL TIPS: 1.) A basic physics lesson I learned (maybe it's physics, I'm not sure). So imagine holding up a straw filled with water and lifting it out of the cup. The water stays in the straw. I think a similar concept is at work in brewing. If you look at the photos of people who have shared them, you'll see a couple where the coffee doesn't go through the filter, it overflows. NOT FINIS ERROR! I have found that if the mouth of the cup is not wide enough, the air in the cup cannot be expelled and the coffee will overflow. If you notice this, simply tilt the bottom filter plate so it doesn't completely touch the cup. You see the flow of coffee. Lesson here, use a fairly wide cup, especially if you're getting 15-ounce swallows like I do. 2.) 15 oz swallows can use a 2-4 cup basket filter (sometimes called a junior filter). DO NOT insert the filter into the maze and then pour the coffee, otherwise you will want to push down the entire paper filter. I first put the coffee in a paper filter and then put it on the fin (see photo). The coffee is then pressed down with an internal press, causing the paper filter to wrap around it. 3.) Pre-wetting the coffee and repressing it makes a big difference. Pour about 2 ounces of hot water first and let it min. Then press down on the coffee again (I'm not actually pressing on the foot because it's not level, I'm pressing directly on the disc). After that you can use the remaining hot water. EXTRA TIP: Remember tip 1? Cup size plays a big role in brewing. The narrow neck slows the passage of water, making the taste more intense. The wider neck makes the water flow faster and the taste is weaker. Too tight, it shimmers. Everything here is based on trial and error. 4.) If you're using a paper filter, I find that the grind that works best is a little coarser than the drip. I use a Starbuck grinder and it is 2 notches coarser than a drip grinder. Works perfectly. For this grind, I use 2 heaped tablespoons for the finale. When I make Vietnamese coffee with condensed milk (hot or cold), I double it. I hope these tips help others who have bought or are planning to buy this. I love my!
