Review on Dylos DC1100: The Ultimate Laser Particle Counter for Accurate Air Quality Analysis by Christopher Gulledge

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Highly recommended and very affordable

I was very curious to know if our house was dust free after the renovation combined with the contractor's faulty HVAC filter installation which resulted in concrete dust spreading throughout the house . everything in our house. We had to move to a hotel while the house and everything in it was professionally cleaned. The basement ceilings had to be removed in order to be able to replace the HVAC ducts as we were told that it was not possible to completely remove the dust from the HVAC ducts as it would stick to the insulation in the ducts and interfere with the time would be released. After we moved back in, I was looking for an affordable device that would give me an objective view of the amount of dust circulating in our home and convince me that the new HVAC system (which now has a high-efficiency filter) was producing clean air delivers . The device performs exactly as I hoped it would and it is excellent value for money. Although it does NOT tell you what the nature of the dust is, it does provide very meaningful and obvious information about dust concentration variations at any given point in time. Like other reviewers (be sure to check out other Revain reviews for this model and other models of this unit) I was able to get a good idea of the dust levels on our home floors, which vary wildly, especially in carpeted areas. Most importantly, I was able to ensure the air coming out of each of the vents was clean. Everyone should make sure their HVAC filter is properly installed and not waste money on expensive filters unless the filter housing is well sealed to prevent dust from getting around the filter. And turn off your air conditioner when doing any type of renovation, even a small one. You'll need to experiment with this device to get a feel for the level change in your home, which can (usually) range from 50am. before there is any movement in the house (assuming your air conditioner is filtering properly and without outside air getting in) to values in the 100-150 range, which I think is a reasonable level. Carpets are very problematic because they are often referred to as allergy protection. I've seen readings of 1000's after heavy traffic but the average seems to be in the 200 to 300 range compared to the low 100's in paved areas. not very impressed (scores >800 with a clean bag). So don't assume that your HEPA vacuum won't extract air containing particles, even with a clean bag. I could also see large changes in outdoor air quality ranging from >4000 particles to 150 particles depending on wind conditions, day/night etc. I no longer assume that open windows let in "fresh air". ". This is an excellent device at a price many times cheaper than other options. I'm not sure if connecting to a PC is useful as I haven't installed the software and noted another reviewer's comment have that it would not work with 64-bit operating systems. A cheaper version without PC tethering will still be very useful. This device is very easy to use and highly recommended.
