It took three bags of excavated earth to get this look. My goal was to go around the entire cage and give my chinese water dragon a few different levels to get to her UVB and sun lights. If you have a large project like mine, I definitely recommend getting at least 6 to 10 bags for a 4' x 6' cage. And that's just to give it a more organic look, I'd do more pockets if you're trying to make shelves and layers. Also, this substance is not easy to handle and can get dirty, so I would suggest putting a tarp under the countertop for easier cleaning.
