Replacement unit works fine. That's how it is today. There is no quality control by the manufacturer. I think it's cheaper to replace than to make sure it's working properly. So many vendor site reviews are heavily weighted by highest and lowest rating. If it works out of the box and works as expected, top marks. If it's DOA, lower rating. I only deal with suppliers with a consumer-friendly return policy. I will spend a few bucks more to buy from the seller and not the "affiliate". I'll buy another A new Toshiba 8TB NAS 300 drive installed.Easy install. Impossible to be wrong. It needs to be properly connected to install the four mounting screws and there is only one way to do it. I plugged everything in and nothing happened when I turned it on. The fan didn't work and I didn't hear the drive spinning. I plugged it into a different outlet and the blue LED came on and the fan ran for less than ten seconds and everything stopped. I tried connecting to another computer and an extension cord and the LED flashed briefly, no fan. I've tried another hard drive, a Seagate 400GB, which I know works and all I get is a quick blink of the LED. Hopefully the new hard drive is not damaged. I have about ten Rosewill RX-358 and Armer cases. Have used them for years with no problems.
