1999 Dodge Dakota Squeaks and Steering Pump Leak

1999 Dodge Dakota fits perfectly. Finally a long drive ended with squeaking and steering fluid leakage. A piercing screech. Spin the steering wheel and see if it squeaks more. Check liquid. Check for leaks at low fluid level. do it first Replace high pressure hose. There is a combination of standard and metric usage that works best when replacing a hose so you don't have to remove it. The high-pressure hose is deceptive. Liquid is squirting all over the place and you might think you have a pump leak. Still leaking? Check if the leak is coming from the return line or from the pump. If you need to replace the pump, it's very simple. 4 screws. One screw has a nut for ground wire. Nut 15mm. Bolt below 14 mm. Take a suitable tool to remove the pulley from the old pump (ad auto, autozone). Use the correct puller. The same puller returns the pulley to the replacement pump. DO NOT hit the pulley. Get the right tool. (Auto parts stores may not give you the right tool, so don't listen to them.) Google videos on YouTube to find the right tool. It's really easy. No leaks but still squeaks? With the engine running, water is sprayed onto the pulley under the sickle belt. If the squeaking stops for a short time, get an alligator crescent strap.
