The biggest problem is finding the right distance to spread your arms to get to the hoop. This requires a large tire - at the moment I have a 14 inch tire set up and I have about an extra inch so this should give you an idea of how much max you need. Once you've found the perfect spot, make sure you mark it on the stand somehow so you know where to put your hands the next time you swap hoops. Note: There are pictures in the guide, but they are minimal.Short Screws - This secures the arms to the base. LONG screws are used to increase the pressure on the back of the clamps. I think they should have added some sort of metal plate to the clamp where the screws meet the bare wood as the wood wears out over time. to change it for yourself somehow. If you use a smaller hoop, you should be able to turn your work without moving the stand. short to flip a big hoop. However, this is the ideal height for desk work, so understand that you will need to turn the work over to see/reach the back. It is very stable and secure and not as wobbly as it looks on the product image once set up. My guess is that the temples were not fully secured in the product image. The wood is mostly unfinished except for the top of the base, but it's well sanded and smooth - a plus if you want to paint/fade it like one of the reviewers here did. Here are the issues I'm having with mine that would give 3.5 stars if I could deduct half a star: The base I received is slightly warped so it wobbles a bit even on a flat table. Support one of the corners with a rag to prevent wobbling. I expected a desktop product to be able to stand upright on a flat surface. There was also rust on some of the screws. This did not affect their usability. These issues simply indicate a lack of quality control and/or the product has been in a humid location for a long time causing the screws to rust. Maybe that's why the base is slightly deformed, who knows. This doesn't stop me from using this base, but I just want you to know about it. I can try and think of a more reliable way to fix the wobble, maybe using a felt pad from a chair in one of the corners.
