Review on Meike Olympus Panasonic Digital Mirrorless by Shawna Sparks

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Excellent lens among lenses

I just bought an Olympus OM-D e-M10 Mark II mirrorless camera and take this lens with me. I wasn't inclined to spend a lot of money on an automatic lens. I am very happy with this manual lens. It is well made and can be focused very well. The addition of focus peaking and zoom from the camera makes focusing incredibly easy. My focus is always precise and fast, and I have little reason to want to use an automatic lens. Having taken over a thousand shots with this lens I can say that it produces excellent images. You won't be fooled with this lens. As with any lens, a little editing in Photoshop or Lightroom will make your shots stand out. For group shots, I have to move quite a bit to take the picture, but that's okay. I manage. It seems that many (even some experts) mistakenly believe that these manual lenses don't do well with moving images. Nothing is further from the truth. I am attaching some photos with movement. With focus peaking and the right settings, I was able to easily capture a lot of moving images. I think it's actually better than Auto - the camera never has to look for focus. Focus Peaking does this quickly and effortlessly.

Pros
  • With a large aperture of f/1.7, the lens can be used indoors, at night or in dark environments
Cons
  • Reliability
