Review on FM4428 Contact Smart ISO7816 Finish by Vincent Poolaw

We bought the cards because they were advertised as ISO 7816 compliant When the cards arrived they could not be read by four different CAC readers / PIV . opensc-tool and opensc-explorer reported "Failed to connect to card: card not responding (inserted correctly?)". By tracing part numbers to manufacturers, the manufacturer states that the SLE4428 card is a "memory card" and not a "smart card". The website also states that the card is "ISO 7816 compliant" (implied form factor) and not "ISO 7816 compliant". ISO 7816 consists of 15 parts and if the card followed the standard we wouldn't have these problems. If you need an ICC memory card in a credit card-like form factor, these cards may be the right choice for you. If you are looking for smart cards with security coprocessors for CAC and PIV environments, skip the FM4428 cards and SLE4428 cards. If you need a smart card with a security coprocessor, try the PIVKey C910 or C980. Both the C910 and C980 passed the tests as expected. We gave the card 2 stars because it couldn't work according to ISO 7816. The seller, ID Cards Direct, was very nice and delivered the cards to us quickly. We gave the seller 5 stars for the quick service. We look forward to doing business with ID Cards Direct again.
