Review on Hyde Tools 9998 24-Inch Acrylic Knockdown Knife (09998): A Must-Have for Seamless Wall Finishes by Paul Williams

Absolute best way to fix knockdown texture

Raven did not ask or email me to review this knockdown knife. I'm so pleased with the results I'm getting that I wish everyone would be scratching their heads on how to fix "that stain" on the ceiling that it's 100% the best way. I'm not a professional but have done a lot of drywall and painting work. I had 5 or 6 spots in 3 rooms where a water leak damaged the knockdown texture on the ceiling. After trying a standard drywall knife and a "wonderful" putty knife, I finally bought one of these thin acrylic knives. Wow what's the difference. I use one of those swiss cheese sponges to apply SMALL dabs of dirt to the corrected area and maybe 2-3 inches further. Wait about 15 minutes for a normal light dirt, then gently smooth the tips with this knife. Voila, as long as you don't stress the peaks too much it should all blend together and with a coat of paint you won't know what it used to be. Too much dirt on the peaks and everything smooths out like a fur coat. If it does, just scrape it off before it dries and try again (like I did). Definitely buy this Hyde knife, it's the secret of success.

Pros

Cons
  • Definitely bad product
