Review on πŸ”Œ ELC T-1000 1000-Watt Voltage Converter Transformer - Step Up/Down - 110V/220V - Circuit Breaker Protection - 3-Year Warranty by Kenneth Bryan

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Very well made, exceeds my expectations.

as of 09/10/2018: second ordered, has a 120V switch on the neutral conductor, this is dangerous for anyone using it to increase the voltage from 120V to 240V. For buck mode, that seems to be working fine. Note for advanced users: A standard US outlet (NEMA 5-15) is only rated for 1500 watts of continuous power, higher wattages only for short periods. So you CAN draw 3000 watts, but no more than a second (used mostly to start engines). Very well made, exceeds my expectations. No hum, not even the usual [THUM] start-up sound when switching on. The toroidal transformer is much more efficient. Most toroidal transformers in these devices are held in place by padding underneath, padding over, placing a metal washer over it, and screwing the entire assembly together. This compresses the wires and can cause a short in the future when you least expect it. In this case, the transformer is cast into the base, which is then screwed. Essentially the transformer is placed in a tray which is then filled with a very strong, hard adhesive. After hardening, the bolt goes through the middle and bottom of the housing. Very reliable, and now there is no pinching of wires. The entire transformer has also been submerged in water, which prevents moisture ingress and wire vibration. Again, you don't want them shorting out. The overall construction of the device looks good. All components are the right size for their task. The photo was taken from top to bottom with the cover removed. To remove the cover, you need to unscrew a lot of screws. I design industrial and household appliances.

Pros
  • Very good value for money
Cons
  • Discontinued model
