Review on πŸ”Œ High-Quality CURT 56601 Replacement 7-Pin RV Blade Trailer Wiring Harness Plug with 6-Foot Blunt-Cut Wires by Dean Wildfang

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Reinforced connector and harness, but colors/wire configuration doesn't match my existing harness

Nice solid connector, wires (#10/2 strands, 12/1, 14/4) and jacket, but same wire colors didn't match match ; However; I was able to get it working. Other reviewers have pointed out that this could be the cause/problem. [UPDATE: I've been using this plugin for a few days now and I'm really happy that everything is working correctly and reliably. No longer. Will it work? May be? My electrical reed socket feels even more powerful than before with secure, clean and strong connections. Bottom line is, I wish I hadn't waited so long to fix it.] My Mopar truck's outlet (under the back door where you plug in the harness connector) has a 7-pin Phillips trailer/RV harness (10/2, 12/1). , 4/14 wires). The Phillips wiring harness uses (I assume) inferior single edge connectors. The fork was worn out and unreliable so I decided to replace it. This new Curt plug is actually a two-pronged plug that resembles a regular outlet (i.e. the Curt sockets in the plug make contact with both sides of the plug in the truck outlet, not just one side of my old Phillips plug). Phillips was metal on one side and used the connector's plastic on the other side to "squeeze" the blade into the truck's socket. With this new Curt, you get metal on both sides: more contact area = better contact. For what it's worth, my existing Phillips connector had the following color/function scheme, with the square notch of the plug at the top at 12 o'clock (same as when plugged into a truck outlet): Clockwise from plug/wire at 1 o'clock (brown) and ends in the middle (blue): Brown/+vehicle positive (lane 14) Amber/turn signal and brake light right (lane 14) White/electric brake (lane 10) Black/-vehicle ground/neutral (10th gauge) Green/Left Turn Signal and Brake Lights (14-gauge) Red/Running Lights (14-gauge) Blue/Taillights (12-gauge) The new Curt connector has the following configuration as standard when mated to the socket of my mopar truck (no modification or m modifications): im Clockwise starting from the square notch up and at the 1 o'clock position, connector/wire (green) and ending at the center connector (yellow): green/+vehicle positive (14 gauge) red/right turn and brake lights (14 gauge) White/Electric Brakes (10 Gauge) Blue/- Vehicle Ground/Neutral (12 Gauge) Brown/Left Turn Signal & Brake Lights (14 Gauge) Black/Running Lights (10 Gauge) Amber/Spare Lights (14 Gauge) ) Although the wire gauges (size) are not quite consistent with my previous configuration, the electric brake does (white 10 gauge). And since the wires powering my Mopar outlet are all already 14 gauge (or smaller), I doubt there will be any issues reconfiguring. This works well and securely, but reconfiguration took longer than plug-n-play, hence I deducted 1 star. In conclusion we can say that the high quality is there but the exact fit is not. Luckily, other reviewers pointed this out to me, which saved me time. Otherwise, I could just assume that the wires on the new harness are constructed the same as my old harness (which isn't the case) and that would cause major problems. So if you're willing to get to the bottom of things and have the knowledge and tools to reconfigure, I think this 7-pin harness is a good solution, even if the wires aren't fine-tuned.
