This thing is amazing for both cookbooks and iPads/tablets!
I bought this because I needed something to support my iPad and cookbooks that also matched my girlfriend's aesthetic demands for our kitchen. Rest assured he achieves all of these goals and does it with honor. The part itself is quite heavy and strong enough to withstand even my textbook sized reference materials.
