Review on ⚡ AIMS Power PICOGLF40W12V120V: 4000W Pure Sine Inverter Charger - Reliable Backup Power Solution with 12,000W Surge Capacity by Keith Morris

So far it works like Noisy Champ!

I installed this fantastic looking inverter in my truck using six 125 amp hour class 31 AGM2 marine batteries. This inverter replaces a modified Aims Power PWINV500012W 5000W sine wave inverter. This new device has a sophisticated multi-mode charger to protect my batteries from overcharging. It can also turn on my gas generator when the battery gets too low. The generator power in turn causes the inverter to go into charging mode. However, with only 2-wire control, it can't turn off my 3-wire controlled generator. This inverter is very heavy, over 70 pounds, and is much heavier on one side than the other. I was surprised at how difficult it was to move around during installation, especially as I didn't want to scratch or damage it, so I first mounted the inverter onto a giant base plate and then bolted the entire assembly down. I feed this monster four 2/0 weld cords. Two positive and two negative. I also installed a 300A Blue Sea fuse directly on the positive side of the inverter. Compared to my old Aims inverter, this one seems to breathe a lot better and stays a lot cooler, but it has a lot more holes for dust to get in through. . There are different fans and fan modes, and if they all light up, the thing is far from silent. Thankfully, that only happens when large batches come online, like the fridges in my food truck. But there is always at least one fan blowing. It's never still. As dusty as my truck is, I guess I have to blow this thing out with an air gun from time to time. The quality seems top notch and even the manual was well written. However, despite being a mechanical engineer, I still couldn't figure out how to get the device to charge my batteries when needed, rather than waiting for the batteries to drop to 10 or 10.5 volts, or how to get past the shore AC power . Power (generator power) through the device to AC output in AC priority mode. There are many modes in which this device can operate. And all those tiny DIP switches control a lot of functions. You may want to keep access to all of these buttons and switches. However, Aims Power handled my emails with no problem. So of course I will amend this review as needed now that I know how this device is supposed to perform. As for turning the unit on and off, I'm disappointed that Aims decided not to make a cheap and easy remote like my old $20 PWRIREMPWR. Instead, Aims has a $130 LED panel that has very poor reviews and no functionality. 160607 UPDATE: This device is now working in one mode or another 24 hours a day, 4 days a week. My generator feeds AC power to this inverter to charge my huge battery about two hours a day. That's the total charge time it takes this inverter to provide AC power for the rest of the day to power a large refrigerator, various fans, a computer, and even the occasional use of a 15,000 BTU Frigidaire window air conditioner.Model: FFRE1533S1 . But at 11 amps AC, the air conditioner draws over 100 amps DC, so battery operation requires the alternator to charge the batteries every 5 hours.

Pros
  • APPLICATIONS: Ideal for applications that automatically switch between shore/generator and inverter, off-grid and standby. Homes, boats, SUVs, solar panels, mobile businesses, and work trucks. Industrial.
Cons
  • Great Price
