Review on Airthings 2960 View Plus Humidity Sensor by Brent Borseth

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Wow, I found out I have a radon problem!

I bought Airthings View Plus because I currently have poorly controlled asthma and want to make sure my home and work environment is as safe for me as possible. To be honest, I wasn't sure if this information would be of any practical use to me in the long run, but I decided to take a chance and give it a try. I live in Colorado. Unfortunately, due to wildfire smoke and pollution, the mountains of the Front Range are often not visible from May through October. That's very sad. Yes, it is true. When people come from out of town in the summer, they're shocked they can't see the mountains from Denver! That wasn't the case when I grew up here, but it's clear that extremely poor air quality is becoming the new normal after years of repeating conditions. Frontline air quality is so bad that if I can't breathe or spend a lot of time away from home 6 months out of the year, I might have to move out of a state. (Colorado is way too crowded right now, and unfortunately all the people moving here are having a very negative impact on air quality, and wildfires are also a big factor.) Anyway, I bought this device with several intentions: 1 .Check the air quality in my house. Check the air quality in the workplace. (I'm a bus driver and want to make sure my car is safe for me, especially given the possible occupational hazards of exhaust fumes, and my uncontrolled asthma may not be the best long-term option.) 3. Check radon levels in my mother's basement. We're not sure if her radon protection system is working properly and she's been slow to check and fix it if necessary. I've snapped at them for YEARS to no avail. I hope this device helps. I really didn't worry about radon in my apartment because I live on the ground floor and don't have a basement. I understand that radon can also affect ground floor apartments, but that didn't bother me too much as it's usually more of a problem in basements. I was completely surprised to see an unsafe amount of radon in my apartment! I didn't expect that at all! Just finding the radon problem was worth the purchase! I will continue to monitor the situation and collect more data throughout the month to see what the levels are so I can discuss this with my neighbors and my flat. Manager. Unfortunately, at least in Colorado, landowners are not legally required to pay for radon abatement systems, even if levels are well above the EPA's safe level guidelines. It seems crazy to me that they don't have a legal obligation to clean up a potentially life-threatening hazard. how is it normal But I will still raise this matter with my housing manager because I need to know that I am safe at home. While my landlord may not be legally responsible for mitigating the damage, I will still raise this matter as he can. My neighbors also deserve to be aware of an issue that may be affecting their health, as we are in a connected building they probably have the same radon levels. As previously mentioned, I am a commercial vehicle driver and would like to check the air quality in my vehicle. buses at work. (I haven't done this yet because I'm still collecting data at home for 1 month.) Our buses should have HEPA filters installed, but I'm afraid they may not be working properly. My asthma gets worse when I drive. We also recently had an exhaust leak on the bus that left visible marks on surfaces. Clearly unhealthy but the company fixed the issue as soon as we realized there was a problem. Anyway, that's one way to get an idea if the bus is extremely polluting, so I have some more information to think about. It's possible that another job that allows me to work indoors may be better for my health in the long run. Frankly, it's impossible to know for sure how accurate a consumer air quality monitor is without being able to double-test professional devices to compare the results. Any consumer air quality monitor requires a certain level of "blind trust” from customers. aka, we can only hope that the company did their due diligence when testing their hardware, since most people have no way of verifying the accuracy of their data. In my research prior to purchasing this unit, I found that most Revain air quality monitors were of questionable accuracy. based on reviews. Airthings seemed to have better reviews than some of the other companies so I decided to trust them. I will continue to update my review once I have more data including the radon issue.
