Liberty vs. KV brand

I recently built a couple of lightweight cabinets using 60lb Liberty full extension slides and found that when attempting to refit an offset drawer or a fully extended drawer, this hits the side, some bearings can be knocked out of position. When I build new kitchen cabinets now, I need full extension slides, not roller slides that only extend 75%. We have been using KV drawer slides in our kitchen for 38 years without incident. The £100 Liberty brand was 2/3 the price of KV so I bought a set of both brands and studied them closely. Despite the fact that the Liberty weighed slightly more than the KV (usually a mark of quality), the Liberty brand pads looked flimsy but fitting. I was about to drop the comparison for lack of an important finding when I noticed that some of the Liberty's internal bearings were exposed when the bolt was fully open, allowing at least two bearings to be knocked out of their cages. The KV brand kept all bearings sealed and locked when fully extended. Then I noticed that the Liberty's outer bearings spin in a flat rack rather than in a race. The KV class had both upper and lower races for the outboard bearings to hold them firmly in place. This is easy to see by looking at the trailing edge of the Liberty pushers to see that the "C-channel" bezel is flat at the top and bottom. Compare that to the KV and you can see they created an extra track (groove) to hold the outboard bearing in place - that was a real benefit for me. I can and have had accidents with Liberty drawers, but I don't put up with that in the kitchen. I will stick with a brand that has served me for 38 years.
