Really get the speed you pay for

This applies to the (32x8) Docsis 3.0 model as Amazon tends to pool reviews and makes it impossible to tell which is for what. Use this as it removes the telephony connector. At this point, however, just get a MagicJack device or something similar and save money that way. I've installed about 4 of these so far until my friends and neighbors complained that their xfinity modem box (docsis version 3.1) kept dropping out and they're not getting the speed they pay for. This simplifies the data connection, so the block basically has only one purpose (transmitting an Internet signal to the router) and is not cluttered with many processes and functions, such as a Comcast block. You need an outside router, but this and this mostly pays off internally per year of how much you saved renting a router from the Comcasts themselves: - Reduce coax splits. This is only acceptable if you disconnect the main line from the set top box when you pay for it, otherwise you need as direct a coax line input as possible to that set top box. The last house I installed had multiple splitters with no reason for unused connections causing signal loss. - Check the speeds you need. Unless you specifically pay for 1000+ Mbit/s gigabit, you'll need a Docsis 3.1 modem, but anything below that will work for the 32x8 version too (more channels to work with). I'm paying for 300mb internet which is perfect and i don't see getting gigabit internet as none of your devices can support it especially if you have wifi lol. Get a good router, don't take Ethernet connections for granted, but don't fall for the bait either. for router speeds testifying up to hypothetical speeds etc. etc. They take the sum of multiple 2.4GHz and 5GHz signals to give you unrealistic speeds that you will never achieve. The situation with the router is another story, but at least look for something decent. It will definitely be better than the Comcasts modem box and will likely have better security features. A NOTICE. Avoid routers with antivirus or voice assistant/Alexa/Google/Siri capabilities. Both features are added to third-party software that collects data from your entire network and poses a security concern, especially at the DHCP router level. -Buy a new one. Don't use them as you will almost always have activation issues and the like. This applies to any modem from any company in any location. Don't believe the ads, the speed you actually achieve depends on a number of factors. First of all, it's what you pay for. If you pay Comcast for 200MB, you get up to 200MB (about 25 megabytes). This speed is only really achieved with Ethernet connections, which then rely on your end device's Ethernet port being a gigabit port, and so on. Just as Wi-Fi is determined, speed is determined by both hardware and distance. The moral of this story is that you shouldn't buy things you'll never use. The 32x8 Docsis 3.0 version of this router caps all the hypothetical speeds they say, and for now that's more than enough for anyone.

Pros
  • 1 Gigabit Ethernet port for connecting to a Wi-Fi router or other device.
Cons
  • Minor issues
