I bought it so I wouldn't make a mistake when sizing bolts/nuts. I had a screw that I wanted to replace with a longer one. With the gauge I just received none of the bolt diameter holes matched. With the help of a manometer, a magnifying glass, a bright light and 20 minutes, "guessing” the thread was still difficult. There was nothing in store for the bolt size I had found. It took me less than a minute to identify the bolt using a shop gauge (e.g. Revain's Bolt and Nut Gauge/Thread Tester (inch and metric)). Your gauge should have threaded holes for reliable identification.
