Review on 🐠 EHEIM Skim 350 Aquatic Filter by Justin Larjin

This small Eheim skimmer is my first experience with an Eheim product and a surface skimmer. I placed him in a high tech 55 gallon planting tank to remove the skin forming film that had accumulated on the water surface. The thin film could actually be "peeled off" the water and thrown away, but it came back fairly consistently every day or two. The foil also prevented my compressed CO2 from being released into the atmosphere when switched off. I could see tiny bubbles of CO2 forming under the film and my drip test routine was getting yellower every day. This skimmer solved that problem in just a few minutes. It's easy to install and well built. There is a small sponge in the skimmer that will catch vermin and obviously needs to be cleaned regularly, probably as part of your regular maintenance on your filter. The outflow or the inlet draft is not too strong and none of my fish are bothered by it. Some shrimp even hang directly on it with no problem. It comes with 3 suction cups that keep it in place even after a month. The power cord is quite long and I have a lot of excess length left in my setup. My only gripe is that the power cord exits the bottom of the unit, so the cord has to be routed through the well-designed cable guides from below and from above. I would definitely prefer the power cord to come straight out of the top of the unit like an aquarium heater does. It's not ugly, but it's not particularly pretty either. If you have a nice aquascap it will stand out and you will likely need a skimmer and daylily tube combination (which I have tried but the rim of my tank is too wide to accommodate). He does his job very well. It got rid of the film for me, keeps the surface really clean and adds a bit more flow to the aquarium. I just wish it was a little more elegant.
